My IBCLC colleague and friend Mandy Rabin and I offer a series of antenatal classes for couples who are really committed to making breastfeeding work
Our classes focus on developing knowledge and confidence.
We aim to go much further than classes you might be offered as part of a general antenatal package.
It's also a great opportunity to meet other couples dedicated to breastfeeding.
As well as covering what you might expect like positioning and attachment, how to tell your baby is getting enough milk, how your milk supply works, the common problems people encounter and their solutions, we'll have time for more.
We'll look at the connection between the birth experience and getting off to a good start, how to access local support on offer and greater detail on how breastfeeding works and what is normal for a breastfed baby as the weeks go by.
We believe it's particularly important that dads prepare for breastfeeding too. This isn't just a class where the dads politely sit in the corner as observers. Partners are a crucial part of breastfeeding being a success and we will focus on giving partners opportunities to ask questions and reflect on their fears and concerns.
We're flexible. We'll also adapt our sessions to ensure we cater for your individual needs and address any specific concerns. Both Mandy and I are trained teachers and this experience helps us meet a wide range of learning styles, use our time effectively and use resources in interesting and memorable ways.
